Summer Festival Season

Updated: Dec 16, 2020

We’re well into August and the heat of summer. If there is one thing that summer is famous for in Japan it is the festivals. Almost every little town and hamlet have a celebration of one kind or another throughout August. If you are in Snow Country this summer there are plenty from which to choose.

If you have never experienced a Japanese summer festival before you are in for a treat. Think little stalls selling food on the street at night, people walking the streets in colorful yukatas, portable shrines being carried through the town, and incredible firework displays.

Time your trip up here to coincide with one of these festivals and you can enjoy a day of activities in the beautiful scenery of Snow Country, and a night enjoying the tastes, sights and sounds of the Japanese countryside enjoying the summer evenings.

Some of the summer events and festivals can be found here (in Japanese).
